Emily has loved making jewellery since she was a child. Emily’s store combines her love of crystals, being creative and making beautiful things!
Emily says “I find the creative process very therapeutic and it makes me happy – and if other people like what I make too then that’s just a bonus! I love every part of the process from designing, making the pieces , even to packaging and posting them – I make sure it is always done with love and some extra personal touches.”
1) What inspired you to start your business?
I’m quite a spiritual person and I tend to follow my gut, even when I don’t understand why! I had this feeling that I needed to open an Etsy shop offering tarot card readings , but I had no confidence I would ever sell anything and I decided to close it. Before I got around to doing so I had my first sale which gave me the confidence to keep going. I since felt the need to expand into jewellery making – which has always been a passion from childhood – and again I took that leap and now my jewellery is my main focus, and it is proving to be popular which is awesome.
2) What issues have you overcome since starting up your business?
Definitely confidence and self esteem – it is a daunting task when I didn’t know much about business. It felt quite intimidating and I wasn’t sure I had anything to offer that people would pay for. Gradually I have grown in confidence and realised that this is something I’m actually really good at!
3) What successes have you had recently?
I reached my 200th sale on Etsy earlier this month which was very exciting! I was also featured in a buzzfeed article which sent a lot of traffic to my shop, which was an exciting time.
4) What are your plans for the next 5 years?
Keep learning and growing, expanding my skills and the range of items that I sell. As always I will follow wherever my gut leads me!
5) What did Startup Direct teach you about starting up a business and the different types of funding for startups?
I had support to write up my business plan and learn how to do a cash flow.
