1)What inspired you to start your business?

Fun Soy start up loan scheme
Fun Soy was originally developed by our founding partner JC, as part of a high protein diet. JC was struggling to find tasty low salt, low sugar, low fat condiments to spice things up so he started to mix his own. When he met partner and COO Alex, it turned out that she was as big a foodie as JC and loved the sauces too. They both strongly believe in the concept of ‘big flavour and better for you’, so they discussed the possibility of Fun Soy as a business endeavour and decided that it was well worth pursuing.

2) What issues have you overcome since starting up your business?

With neither Alex nor JC having any experience in the food industry prior to starting Fun Soy, the entire experience has been and continues to be a learning curve. Margins, secure packaging, distribution, and pacing out growth of the company have been the biggest challenges to date.

3) What successes have you had recently?

Fun Soy has been stocked in all 7 UK branches of Harvey Nichols for a year now, and since then on the shelves in Partridges, Selfridges, and several smaller rural outlets. Fun Soy is also available via an online stockist in Miami, as well as in two chains in Holland. Most recently we have received an order from a distributor in Hong Kong, and our biggest order to date from a food subscription website in Germany. This summer we received word that chef Rick Stein is a fan of both the Truffle and Chipotle flavours, and they are now stocked in his deli in Padstow.

4) What are your plans for the next 5 years?

We plan to scale up production to enable us to fill larger orders more efficiently. In time, we hope to supply large supermarket and health store chains. We will continue to develop Fun Soy and add new flavours to the line up. We also have a few ideas for some other sauces in mind so watch this space!
