Our Regulatory Status

Startup Direct aims to help entrepreneurs get started in business and entrepreneurship. In achieving this, we expect to meet the highest standards of governance and to adhere to both rules and the spirit of financial and legal regulatory systems.

When you apply for a Start Up Loan through us, we transfer your application to our partners, Transmit Start-Ups Limited. Transmit Start-Ups are authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and their reference number is 727421.

Both Startup Direct and Transmit Start-Ups are registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) and endeavour to meet the highest standards of data protection. The ICO registration number for Startup Direct is ZA487073. The ICO registration number for Transmit Start-Ups is ZA047144.


If you have received a decision in regards to a loan application which you feel is incorrect, you can lodge an appeal with Transmit Start-Ups to have the decision reviewed. When a decision is reviewed, we can only consider the application as it stood at the time the decision was made. In the interests of fairness, we are not able to consider any new information in regards to the application. Transmit Start-Up’s appeals policy can be viewed here:


Our aim is to provide all customers with a first class standard of service at all times. If, at any point you feel where this high standard has not been met, you are able to lodge a complaint against Transmit Start-Ups. We take all complaints seriously and the manner in which they are dealt with is outlined in Transmit Start-Ups Complaints Policy.

If, after your complaint has been dealt with by Transmit Start-Ups, you are not satisfied with our response, you are able to refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Details of how you can do this can be found in the Complaint’s Policy.

Abusive Behaviour

Any abusive or aggressive behaviour (written or verbal) toward our staff, agents, contractors or partners will not be tolerated and could result in your application for a Start Up Loan being declined with immediate effect.

We also consider any remarks of a racial, sexist, or otherwise discriminatory nature to be abusive, and reserve the right to terminate all contact with any individual who makes such remarks. This could also result in any application for a Start Up Loan being declined with immediate effect.
